Pediatric Speech & Language Therapy
Speech-Language Therapists are professionals who can work with you to stimulate your child’s speech and language development.
During the initial assessment, the speech-language therapist will use both formal and informal assessments to identify the child’s strengths and weakness in communication.
The main areas that the speech-language therapist will look at include attention and listening skills, understanding of verbal expressions, reading comprehension and written expression.
From the assessment, a skilled speech-language therapist will not only be able to ascertain the current level of functioning of your child but will also be able to identify your child’s learning style and the suitable tools and methods to match your child’s needs.
After the assessment, the speech-language therapist will analyze the sample collected during the assessment and plan the speech/language therapy accordingly. Some specific areas of communication may need to be worked on first before others.
The speech-language therapist will then work according to the plan. Specific tailor made exercises with clear instructions would be given to your child during the sessions. Parents are encouraged to sit in the session to observe the technique demonstrated by the clinician and carry out the similar exercises at home.
