PS - 5yrs, male
Problem :
Developmental speech and language delay secondary to Mild Hemiplegic Cerebral Palsy, Feeding difficulties.
Treatment :
Daily Therapy for a month involving:
- Oro-motor assessment and therapy
- Vitalstim therapy
- LSVT
Before

- Swallowing / feeding problems-difficulty chewing
- Drooling dues to poor lip seal and reduced sensation
- Occasional Coughing and choking during meals
- Unclear speech secondary to delayed speech and language development
- Possible sensory issues- dislikes warm, hot foods, preference for specific foods, dislikes wet, soiled towels etc

- Improved swallowing as measured during objective tests.
- Better saliva control
- Slightly improved lip seal and control.
- Improved chewing and ability to manage soft mechanical foods that required chewing. He was able to ‘eat better’ without being clumsy as before.
- No coughing or choking during meals
- More accepting of different foods and textures
- Improved voice- loudness improved from 61 db to 94 db for voicing anf from 70 db to 84 db for conversation
- Able to sustain a voice for longer durations ( ~ 15 secs)
- Perceived reduction in the hyper-nasality of his speech
- Improved clarity of speech
- Improved voice quality-less strained strangled and much clearer as opposed to a strained and wet quality noted at the start of the program
